Environmental Communication

For improving the relationship between KYOCERA Document Solutions and society, "environmental communication" plays an important role. In this field, we have been making diverse efforts inside and outside the country, including the implementation of briefing conferences on our social and environmental activities.

"Social and environmental activities briefing" held by the Hirakata Plant and the Tamaki Plant

The annual briefing on our social and environmental activities took place at the Hirakata Plant and the Tamaki Plant respectively. The FY2010 briefing was held on October 26 by the Hirakata Plant and on October 29 by the Tamaki Plant, in which we invited representatives of local communities, our suppliers and business partners and government officials, showed them our plant facilities and provided explanations on our effluent purification systems, energy-saving measures and other environmental efforts made by the respective plants.

It was the sixth time that the Hirakata Plant held a briefing, which was attended by as many as 41 guests including the Mayor of Hirakata City. Later, attendees complimented us, saying that they were impressed with KYOCERA Document Solutions' social contributions and environmental commitment as well as the efforts made by the plant and at its project sites, and that they had come to learn the company's responsible attitude as a leading manufacturer in Japan. The Tamaki Plant also had many attendees, totaling 38 persons including the Mayor of Tamaki Town, to whom we explained our environmental efforts.

We will continue to work hard to be a good corporate member of society while making efforts to strengthen relationships with local communicates with ensuring that our business activities are society/environment-friendly.

KYOCERA Document Solutions Taiwan Participation in the hiking trail cleanup campaign

In September 2010, 50 employees belonging to the Taipei office of KYOCERA Document Solutions Taiwan participated in the "FY2010 hiking trail cleanup campaign" initiated by the Taipei City Government Bureau of Environmental Protection. In this volunteer activity, conducted as part of their social contributions, the participants cleaned hiking trails of the BaiLu Mountain and KangLe Mountain in Taipei City.

Egret Hills and Kang Le Mountain are located close to downtown Taipei City and are popular among local residents as places for hiking and morning exercises. In recent years, litter dropped by hikers has become more prominent on hiking trails in these hills, and the Bureau has been conducting the cleanup campaign every year since 2008.

KYOCERA Document Solutions Taiwan acquired ISO14001 certification in 2008, and since then, its employees have been increasing their level of interest in environmental issues. Such background together with their desire to do something for the local community made them decide to participate in the cleanup campaign. Starting from 7:00 a.m., participants spent about three hours cleaning about 2 kilometers of the hiking trail.

Surrounding the hiking trail are diverse species of plants including ancient ferns and giant Malayan banyans. The participation in the cleanup campaign provided our employees with the opportunity to feel gratitude for the existence of abundant nature close at hand and recognize the importance of making efforts to protect the natural environment.

It was their second time to voluntarily participate in local social activities, following their participation in 2009 in the "Ecosystems protection campaign for the Jiannan Road hiking trail." Employees of Kyocera Mita Taiwan will continue their volunteer activities to win the trust of local citizens.

Such joint cleanup project was not new to KYOCERA Document Solutions Hong Kong and its sales company, as the two companies already had the chance to work together cleaning beaches and parks in Hong Kong. In FY2010, after having the opportunity to work with employees of KYOCERA Document Solutions Asia at the Mita Centre in Hong Kong, the two companies decided to ask KYOCERA Document Solutions Asia to join their collaboration. As a result, a total of 12 employees of KYOCERA Document Solutions Asia participated in the trilateral collaborative cleanup project, resulting in the participation of 141 persons in total.
