New plant will become company´s second manufacturing base,
supplying document imaging products to a growing global market
Kyocera Mita Corporation (President: Katsumi Komaguchi) announced today that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant to be constructed in VSIP Hai Phong Integrated Township and Industrial Park in Hai Phong City, Vietnam. Kyocera Mita became the first company to make a large-scale investment in this industrial park after being granted an investment certificate on July 5th of this year. The first stage of the construction (total floor area: approx. 66,000m2) is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2012, with manufacturing at the plant to commence in October of the same year with approximately 1,000 personnel. By the year 2016 Kyocera Mita plans to increase the number of employees to roughly 7,000 and reach an annual production volume of approximately US$1 billion.
Around 200 people including officials from the Vietnamese and Singaporean governments as well as members of the Japanese government, Hai Phong City attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
The new plant will be operated by Kyocera Mita Vietnam Technology Company Limited (President: Osami Fukao), a wholly-owned company of Kyocera Mita Corporation. Kyocera Mita plans to manufacture mainly low-end printers, MFPs and their peripherals for office use at this new plant. Shipments will be made to the global market in the future, including both emerging markets where demand for document products is expected to follow economic development, as well as in developed markets where downsizing is being pursued. In order to realize stable supply and quick delivery of products, Kyocera Mita will aggressively promote local procurement of components. This new plant in Vietnam will become the second major manufacturing plant for Kyocera Mita after its plant in China, and is expected to make a substantial contribution in expanding both sales and market share of document imaging products of Kyocera Mita.
In his congratulatory speech, VSIP Hai Phong Co-chairman Huynh Quang Hai recalled that Kyocera Mita has a tight timeline to follow in order to commence operations in 2012. With the assistance of VSIP, Kyocera Mita obtained its investment license within two months of its decision to invest in the VSIP Hai Phong, including the investment incentives accorded to businesses operating in the VSIP Hai Phong economic zone. Also, Kyocera Mita was swift and decisive when choosing its new factory location due to the proximity of Hai Phong Port and the future Lach Huyen Deep Sea Port.
Kyocera Mita Corporation President Katsumi Komaguchi expressed his high expectations for the development of the new plant in his speech at the ceremony; "I hope that this new plant will become more than just a manufacturing facility of office equipment, but that we can also play an important role in the industrial development of Vietnam and Hai Phong City as a locally-based company by working together with educational institutions such as universities in and around Hai Phong and actively participating in the cultivation of human resources in Vietnam."
