Yes. The app will be updated occasionally to support new KYOCERA printing devices.

The app will not work with other brand printing devices.

The layout is slightly different to take best advantage of the different screen sizes, but the features are the same for both.

Mobile Print supports screen readers and the ability to specify preferred larger type sizes. Note: Due to limited space, buttons and components in navigation, tool bars, and some text in tables cannot be adjusted. Mobile Print does not support some very large font size options.

Printing and Scanning

Printing and Scanning

Yes, you can execute Mobile Print features by tapping the Android device on the printing device’s NFC tag.

Photos can be accessed through the app’s Photos window, by selecting an Album and then a specific photo. If your mobile device includes a built-in camera, you can take a new photo to print or email by selecting Camera. Once you’ve selected or taken a photo, you can adjust print options. You can select multiple photos to print at one time.

Documents can be accessed through the app’s Documents window or a supported external service. To access existing documents, select Documents or one of the external services (Dropbox, Evernote, OneDrive, Google Drive, or Shared Folder). Once you’ve selected a document, you can adjust print options.

You can print .BMP, .HTML (iOS only), .JPG, .PNG, .PDF, .TIFF, .TXT, and .XPS files. On iOS devices, you can also print .RTF files, as well as iWork (Keynote, Numbers, and Pages), Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), or Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, and Slides) file types. On Android devices, .TXT files print at lower resolution.

The print quality options supported in the app are Normal, Draft, and High (B&W models only). Paper size options are Letter, Legal, Ledger, Statement, A3, A4, A5, A6, Folio, B4, B5, B6, and Hagaki. You can also select the number of copies to print, number of pages per sheet, and page range. Additional options are displayed in Printing Preferences based on the printing device model.

Yes, but only in relation to media type. The app defaults to Auto for paper source. You can select from up to 7 cassettes (device dependent) and the MP Tray. If the media type selected is not in the selected source, the type/source combo will be used to print the job.

Paper source selection does not affect page size. The app sends print jobs to the default paper source unless the chosen page size is not in the selected source. In that case the source with the selected page size will be used for the job.

Yes. There is a long list of media types to choose from, including Auto.

On iOS devices, you can access stored photos in the Photos window, stored documents in the Documents window, or by accessing a supported external service. On Android devices, you can access stored photos or documents in your specified download folder or in the default /sdcard/Download folder.

On iOS devices, new scans are saved in the app’s Documents window or you can select a supported external service or shared folder. On Android devices, new scans are saved in your specified download folder or in the default /sdcard/Download folder.

You can scan documents for output in .JPG, .TIFF, and .PDF formats.

You can use your mobile device’s email app to send scanned files that you have saved on your mobile device or to a supported external service. On iOS devices, you can attach saved scans to an email message and send via the device’s native Mail app. On Android devices, you can attach saved scans to an email message using any email app that you have installed on your device.

Yes, but you can only perform the Scan function with Direct Queue.

No. You can only save the scanned files to any of the following destinations:

  • Internal storage of your mobile device
  • Cloud-based storage services connected to your KYOCERA Mobile Print app
  • SMB (Shared Folder)

You can also send the scanned files through email.

No.

Job accounting lets the system administrator keep track of all print and scan jobs initiated by users. This feature is available on compatible printing devices. Job accounting can be turned on or off on the app, but must also be set on the device by an Administrator. With job accounting on, you can select Prompt for account ID to require entry of an Account ID.

RAW (port 9100), IPP (port 631), and IPPS (SSL port 443) are supported. On iOS devices, you can designate a printing protocol by selecting Printing Preferences (icon in the lower right corner of the screen) > Printing protocol (the gear icon). On Android devices, within the app, select Menu > Advanced Settings > Printing protocol. The printing protocol selected for your mobile device and printing device must match. If you are not sure which protocol is used by your printing device, contact your system administrator.

On compatible Android devices with at least 512MB of RAM, the app can scan up to 60 pages at A4/color/200 dpi or 15 pages at A3/color/600 dpi.

With iOS devices, yes. With Android devices, not in one pass. In the latter case, the app can only accurately print one particular page size per print job. If your PDF document contains pages having different sizes, consider grouping pages by size and sending each group as a separate print job.

With Android devices, while you can use IPv6 to select and connect to a scanning device, some printing devices will not scan when connected using IPv6. If you have trouble scanning with an Android device, try using IPv4 to select the scanning device.

iOS devices will scan when connected using IPv6.

Printing multiple worksheets from a Microsoft Excel workbook is not supported by Mobile Print. We recommend that you use AirPrint.

Discovery and network

Discovery and network

To print or scan using KYOCERA Mobile Print, your mobile device must be connected wirelessly to the same local area network as your targeted printing device. If supported by your printing device, Wi-Fi Direct allows you to connect wirelessly to a printing device without a local Wi-Fi network.

Devices are discovered through SNMP discovery by default. Discovery via Bonjour (iOS only) or WS-Discovery is also available. When using the Bonjour discovery protocol, ensure that Bonjour is enabled on your printing device.

You can save up to 10 printing devices to the Favorites list in the Discovery window. By default, the app uses the SNMP protocol to discover printing devices on your Wi-Fi network. Optionally, you can use the WS-Discovery or Bonjour (iOS only) discovery protocols. To save a printing device to the Favorites list, tap the Star icon next to the selected device's name in the Select Device window.

On iOS devices, you can import files to the app by any of the following methods:

  • From email: Touch and hold an email attachment and select Copy to KYOCERA Print from the choices to save the attachment to the app's Documents folder.
  • From iTunes: When syncing your iOS device to your computer using iTunes, choose KYOCERA Print in the Apps tab, and transfer files through the KYOCERA Print Documents pane.
  • From other apps: If an application supports iOS Open in functionality with Mobile Print, you can use Open in… and select Copy to KYOCERA Print from the list.
Imported files can be retrieved in the app’s Documents window.

On Android devices, import files to the app with these methods:

  • From email: Open an email attachment in the app by tapping the attachment. If functionality is supported for the attachment type, select KYOCERA Mobile Print from the choices to open the attachment in the Documents window
  • From browsers: Open a web site with a browser and select the Options menu on the upper right corner, select Share, then select KYOCERA Mobile Print to load the web site in the web window
  • From other apps: If an application supports the Open with functionality with Mobile Print, select Open with or Share, and then select KYOCERA Mobile Print to load the file in the Documents window

On iOS devices, there are two methods by which you can transfer files to a desktop computer. You can either send the file by email from within the app, or use the app’s Shared Folder feature to directly access your desktop computer. On Android devices, you can email files that you have saved in the app to any email account that you can access from your desktop computer.

For scanned documents, you have a choice of where to save: the device’s Documents folder, or any of the supported external services (Dropbox, Evernote, OneDrive or Shared Folder). To change, select the location (the default is Documents) and select another location. Files sent to external services are accessible on your PC through the appropriate installed application or the service’s website.

Shared Folder lets you set up access to a shared folder on a desktop or laptop computer. Select Shared Folder, provide the following information, and select Login (in iOS, Done in Android):

  • Host name or IP address (only IPv4 is supported)
  • Path (shared folder name)
  • Login user name
  • Password
  • Domain (optional, only needed if the share is in a different domain from the device hosting the app)

If you have problems connecting to the share, check your settings or contact you system administrator.

NFC must be enabled on your Android device and on the printing device.

You can tap on the printing device’s NFC tag from each function screen to connect to a printing device.

A printing device can have up to 3 IP addresses, which are Wired, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi Direct. When you tap on an NFC tag, the app checks for Wi-Fi availability in the following order:

  • Wired
  • Wi-Fi
  • Wi-Fi Direct

When you cannot connect to a printing device with Wired or Wi-Fi, connect with Wi-Fi Direct.

You can access the Internet when connecting through Wi-Fi Direct pairing mode. If your mobile device has a cellular network, the cellular network will be used for Internet access.

Mobile Print prioritizes the use of Wi-Fi if it is connected to a network. If Wi-Fi is on but not connected to a network, it uses Wi-Fi Direct pairing mode for communication with the printing device, and uses mobile data for Internet access.

You cannot access the Internet through Wi-Fi access point mode.

Starting with iOS 11, there are strict security requirements for SSL communication. We recommend that you install the latest certificates on your KYOCERA Net Manager server that supports SHA-256.

Emailing and web browsing

Emailing and web browsing

You can send emails with document or image attachments from within the app if your device is properly configured to send and receive email.

To print an email attachment, you must import the file to the app to make it available for printing. (For further details, see topic “Can I import files to the app?” above.)

Mobile Print has a built-in web browser for accessing the Internet. You can print webpages accessed through the browser.

You can print in-line text, but not file attachments or files that are in cloud-based storage. The following cloud-based external services are supported:

  • Dropbox
  • Evernote
  • OneDrive
  • Google Drive

Each of these has its own icon in the app and you sign into the selected service with your credentials. At this time, the app does not support other cloud services (such as Box.)

Proxy environments are only supported on mobile devices running Android version 3.1 and above.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

  • Check if your printing device is supported
  • Check your local area network connections and confirm that your mobile device is wirelessly connected to the network
  • Check that your mobile device is accessing the same subnet address range as that of your printing device
  • Retry discovery
  • Try another discovery method
  • Click Input on the Select Device screen, and type in the IP address

If necessary, contact your system administrator for assistance.

Go to the system menu of the printing device and print out a status page.

The app can only print iWork documents in portrait orientation.

The app uses iOS services to render previews of Office documents. For better results, use files produced in Office 2007 or later.

Your iOS device will send a warning message when memory allocation becomes low. When memory allocation becomes low, the system will attempt to free up memory being used by open apps. If not enough memory is freed up, it is possible that apps will crash. Closing open apps on your mobile device may alleviate the situation.

Check that your devices are connected to your local area network, and that the printing device is turned on.

Selecting a lower resolution option may help. It is also possible that your network connection is slow, which can affect printing performance. Also, consider adding more RAM to your printing device. The recommended minimum is 512MB.

The system administrator can restrict printing and scanning on the printing device or through Command Center by turning on local authentication or network authentication. With User login enabled, an administrator can restrict access to resources. Administrators can set job quotas using Job accounting.

It's possible that the printing device does not support the PDF version of the document; only PDF versions 1.4 through 1.7 are supported. Alternatively, the printing device might not support the PDF encryption method used on the encrypted file.

It's possible that the text encoding of the Android clipboard content differs from the text encoding that is set on the mobile device. Alternatively, the clipboard content might be set to a font that is not supported by the mobile device. Changing the setting for Advanced > Text encoding (Clipboard) in the app might alleviate the problem.

With Android devices, each time the app interacts with a password-protected PDF document, the document's password must be entered manually.

In the web interface for your 3COM switch, click Device View > Bridge > Multicast Filter > IGMP > Snoop Mode . Then set IGMP Multicast Filtering to Enabled. Once you've saved your changes, you should be able to discover connected devices through Mobile Print via WS-Discovery.

Beginning with Android v.4.0 (Kitkat), some folders in the SD card are restricted for writing by the device. To save scanned documents, select /sdcard/download in Advanced Settings > File location .

  1. Go to Select Device > Code , then scan the code.
  2. To connect to the printing device, select the device name, then tap Select.
    If necessary, select Retry.

Rotate the device before using the camera in Mobile Print.

On Android devices, encrypted PDF documents can only be printed in their native orientation. The app automatically selects the correct orientation setting in Printing preferences.

SNMP device discovery is not supported with Wi-Fi Direct pairing mode.

Use Add by IP address if Cellular data is enabled on your mobile device.

Use WS-Discovery if Cellular data is not enabled on your mobile device.

If you want to use SNMP device discovery, you can connect with a printing device by Wi-Fi access point mode.

This error occurs only on the Nexus 6P. Avoid copying text from the clipboard for now.

This is a known issue in Android devices, which disappears if your close printing preferences and reopen.

Rotate and Reload are separate processes that can cause memory exceptions when run too quickly together on Android devices. To prevent crashing, use these functions one at a time.
