Notice Concerning Discontinuation of Use of Compressed files with Passwords

July 25, 2022
Japan

Kyocera Document Solutions Inc. (President: Hironori Ando) announces that starting August 1, 2022, we will discontinue the use of compressed files with passwords for all e-mail. sent and received by e-mail accounts used by our company employees for business purposes. We ask for the understanding and cooperation of our customers, business partners, and related organizations.

Compressed files with passwords are extremely difficult to check for malware when receiving email because the files are encrypted. A number of malicious attacks have been observed around the world, such as the recent increase in the number of compressed files with passwords attached to them to bypass security checks, and the use of compressed files as infection routes for Emotet, IcedID, QakBot, etc. In light of this, we have decided to completely discontinue the use of compressed files in order to further strengthen the information security of our business partners and our company.

As for how to exchange data with our company, we would appreciate it if you could consult with the person in charge (recipient) at our company as needed.
